NAOMI "NOMI" RODRIGUEZ

Naomi "nomi" Rodriguez is 21 years old, miami-hialeah born and bilingual. a mixed-race Latina and an active interdisciplinary visual and performing artist. currently pursuing a BFA in Interarts Performance with a minor in Latina/o Studies at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor.she uses narrative design and surrealist storytelling through textiles, stage design, and color. she focuses on
portraying her identity and engaging audiences through immersive experiences.
being an Afro-Latina born in the U.S., naomi has begun to understand the complexities of claiming Blackness in the Latin American community and in the African-American community. she has no roots in the Colonial United States so she will never take the space of those who do. her roots are in Colonial Latin America, so she understands that Rodriguez is colonial while my physical features are her forgotten ancestors. she tries to unpack how Afro and Indigenous communities bonded in Latin America through community practices, language, and actions and how that reflects in her parent's behavior and teachings to her and her siblings.
